FAQs

Which browser and operating system?

According to HOASpace, our web hosting company, most of the commonly-used web browsers and operating systems are supported. Your webmaster has confirmed good operation and compatibility with the Internet Explorer 6 (IE6) and Firefox 2 browsers and Windows XP operating system on an IBM-compatible PC.

Limited experience with Mac OS-X using the Safari browser indicates that Safari tends to open unnecessary windows when downloading  and displaying documents from the website, and may also generate error pop-ups. The Firefox browser works better with Mac OS-X. Mac owners interested in trying the free Firefox browser can download it from www.mozilla.org/download.html.

Experience with the Opera 9 browser shows that its behavior is different in some operations and has deficiencies in others. Unlike IE6, Opera does not support copying formatted text and graphics from a web page and pasting to a Word document.

A deficiency with Opera 9 is that it doesn't show a vertical scroll bar in pop-up windows displaying Help pages. If you are using Opera, and find this to be the case, the wheel on a "wheel mouse" can be used to scroll text in the window. This browser also tends to omit spacing between paragraphs in the pop-up windows, making the Help files more difficult to read.

HOASpace previously experienced the common compatibility problems with AOL, and especially the ability to transfer email to/from AOL addresses (required for member confirmation and other notifications). HOASpace now has a work-around solution; AOL users should note special instructions on Help pages and in email received from this website.

Please contact the webmaster if you experience problems with the above or other browsers and operating systems.
